We are excited to announce our 2018/2019 Scholarship Recipients!

Scholarship recipients have access to Good Women Company Classes for free for one of two terms: September-December 2018 or January-April 2019.

Kendra Shorter (September – December 2018)  is an emerging artist based in Edmonton, Alberta. She is a performer, creator, and teacher. Kendra has trained in Sherwood Park, Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, and New York. She attended the Dance Italia/Gaga Summer Workshop in Lucca, Italy for two consecutive years. Kendra has had the opportunity to perform in works by Sharon B. Moore, Jojo Lucila, Julia Sasso, and Darryl Tracy. Select credits include Lobbyists (Azimuth Theatre), Lay-by (Nextfest) Bears (Punctuate Theatre/ Alberta Aboriginal Performing Arts), Dreamspeakers Film Festival Youth Day video choreographer (Dreamspeakers).

Kalyna Howell-Matwichuk (January – April 2019) is a recent high school graduate of Victoria School of the Arts in Edmonton, AB. While a truly versatile dancer, her passions lie with ballet, tap and contemporary/modern. Kalyna is classically trained in Cecchetti ballet and is known to be a risk taker with a unique approach to choreography and performance. Kalyna has twice been invited to attend the National High School Dance Festival (NHSDF) in Pittsburgh, PA., attracting thousands of dance students from all over the world. Kalyna has won multiple regional awards in ballet, hip hop, tap and contemporary/modern. She has had the privilege of working with such mentors and masters as Josh Beamish, Cornelius Carter, Peggy Baker, Allen Kaeja, Brian Webb, Heather Cornell, Shawn Bracke, Brock Jellison, Shay Kuebler and Danny Nielson. Kalyna plans to pursue a career in dance performance and instruction.

Good Women Classes run every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10-11:30am at Good Women’s space in the Ruth Carse Centre for Dance (11205 107 Avenue). Please check online for any schedule changes.
