12 SMALL DEATHS is a semi-autobiographical dance - and then - theater work that unveils the daily life of protagonist B.W. Beeker; a seemingly put-together and overworked baker confined by her own ideals and her basement's short ceilings. Through this solo study, we are interrogating our perceptions of existence, control, and fear of the unknown through the female gaze. Since April 2021, Tia and Katherine have been slowly chipping away at the small world of B.W. and her loved one through movement tasks, setting development, strings of choreography, and monologue writing. They will be sharing a skeleton of 12 SMALL DEATHS.
Feedback From our audience on the day of the showing, we would love to hear any questions they have about the work, any feelings (if any) that came up, or any observations about imagery, music, or narrative that resonates or are recognized in the viewer.
We see this work eventually being performed in-the-round, as a double-stacked stage set-up with the soloist on the main floor and the musician/dj on scaffolding above her. Thank you endlessly to our collaborators and supporters: Jocelyn Mah, Julian Anderson-Bowes, Dedra McDermott, Christianne Ullmark, Clarke Blair, Aeris Korper’s PROSPECTS, Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, Good Women Dance Collective’s Space Share Program, Canada Council for the Arts....
