Dance Class with Maria Fekecz-Mangan
Shumka Dance Centre10515 111 streetEdmonton, ABT5H 3E8 Map
A mix of floor work and experimental work, which are based on physical exercise, and how to organize our body to move through space. The class will make our bodies and brains work hard. We will discover our strength, weakness, and freedom. Our tasks for a few days will be short exercises to explore what we can do to interconnect with our limits and how to push through them. I will take you on a journey from short tasks, through improvisation, to choreography. As well we will work on your coordination through different tasks. During the class I will use tools which will help us to work and check how our bodies are working in inconvenient situations. The class will be based on floor work which I learned and explored in Europe to develop my own methods and want to share it with you.

Dance Class with Ainsley Hillyard
Shumka Dance Centre10515 111 streetEdmonton, ABT5H 3E8 Map
After two years of intermittent online classes and a two week in person intensive with Ruth Zaporah in Santa Fe, Ainsley is eager and excited to share some of her learnings in Action Theater and how it applies to her own practice. In this class we will be moving, speaking and always improvising. It promises to scan the whole range from serious to silly.
Ainsley is not a certified Action Theater instructor and will not be teaching Action Theater, but offering some exercises from her own practice that have been informed by Ruth Zaporah’s work. This class is geared towards all levels of movers, actors and improvisers.

Dance Class with Alida Kendell
Shumka Dance Centre10515 111 streetEdmonton, ABT5H 3E8 Map
Working with a choreographic approach to classes, Alida creates movement sequences that activate the whole body and explore a range of physical expression. Currently she is interested in movement that both leans into and away from her physical tendencies, which means embracing fluidity and sensuality but also searching for sharp, powerful and dynamic movement. Alida's classes are geared toward intermediate and advanced movers, including floor, standing and across the floor combinations which are influenced by her ballet and contemporary training.

Artistic Statement
I love teaching this class and seeing how adults and children can play and dance together, and get their needs met in (sometimes) very different ways. I also feel that relational dance is such a great way to build community. And although dance may seem so superfluous at times like these, it actually nurtures many essential human needs, including the one to connect and experience joy.
