Good Women Dance Collective’s 15th Convergence
October 24th-26th, 2024
La Cite Francophone
Each evening at 7:30pm
ASL interpretation will be available Saturday at 7:30pm from Thurga Kanagasekarampillai with support from Gail Benin and Shelly Nafshi.
RELAXED PERFORMANCE / FAMILY MATINEE: Join us Saturday October 26 for a special 2pm matinee featuring a relaxed performance of GWDC’s new work and a special share from our Parent Child Dance Class. (This performance will not feature FACE2FACE). This will also be a relaxed performance, meaning there will be dim audience light during the performance, kits available for any sensory needs, and some adjusted sound/lighting cues.
GWDC’s newest work is brewing – This quartet simmers in simplicity. It is a window through which we see different perspectives; through which time slows and speeds. Bodies and minds are heightened as legs fly up and skin meets the floor.
Choreographed by Alison Kause and Alida Kendell, performed by Alison Kause, Alida Kendell, Deviani Andrea and Molly McDermott, with Dramaturgy by Lin Snelling and an original composition by Jordan Pelz.
FACE2FACE by Marynia Fekecz-Mangan at Convergence 2024
“FACE2FACE” aims to use choreographic languages to show the intrinsic interconnectedness between humans. The viewers will follow two dancers and their previously recorded selves as they explore themselves in each other and the shadows of who they were on the screens. The artists intend to bring seamless integration and momentary synchronization between video, live dancers, and music and – at the same time – create an illusion for the audience that oscillates around past and present.
As Marynia Fekecz-Mangan says: “… I have been in Canada a few years now; becoming a mother to two kids (one is two years old, and another is a newborn) and a Canadian citizen (2023) has been an inspiring experience. While motherhood is not the focus of this project, it is now inherently a part of everything I do. It is challenging and complex in some ways. As a well-motivated artist and a member of the maternal dance community, I feel supported and welcomed to continue to create work that embraces and supports me as a mother.”
