Class with Amber Borotsik
Class with Amber Borotsik
December 19, 2024 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Amber Borotsik will be facilitating a week of interdisciplinary, creation based classes as a part of The Good Women Dance Collective’s Creative Incubator. Amber used to be a drummer and downplays it a lot but, honestly, she is obsessed with musicality, rhythm especially. Intentionally eclectic, these classes will explore rhythm as an inciting incident for creation and improvisation, as well as a tool to refresh old patterns. Think of it like a mini-Creative Incubator. Expect improvisation – solo and ensemble, creation tasks, sound walks and exercises to intentionally scramble our brains in a playful way.
Amber Borotsik is an Amiskwaciwâskahikan based creator and performer keenly interested in the intersection between contemporary dance and theatre practices. Amber has devised, choreographed and performed in both theatre and dance all across Canada and the United States, as well as in Japan and South Africa. Select recent credits include Glory – MacEwan University (Director), Story Seekers and the Dictionary of Destiny – St. Albert’s International Children’s Festival (Creator/Performer alongside Jesse Gervais) and Black Rainbow – KO Dance Projects (Dancer). Amber delights in any opportunity to create (Scythe, Moon at Midnight, No Guesses Found), collaborate (Genital Posturing of the Vervet Monkey Punctuate! Theatre/UTM/Centre for the Less Good Idea/UCM), remix (CanDance/Studio 303/MZD/NDW REMIX Exchange) and exchange (Centre de Création O Vertigo’s Emerging Encounters International Exchange Project). In January she heads to St. John’s to Co-Direct a collaboratively created adaptation of Oderin by Newfoundland poet Agnes Walsh.
