We are excited to have guest teacher Rumi Jeraj teaching our company classes online!
Thursday, June 11 10:30-11:30am, zoom link TBA
Class description:
This class will explore rigour through improvisational systems. Part cardio challenge and part improvisation exploration, the goal of this class is to push your limits and discover new movement through exhaustion. This practice has been re-imagined for an at-home experience and only requires the curiosity to explore!
Biography:
Rumi Jeraj hails from Sherwood Park, Alberta (the world’s largest hamlet), and is curious about sound and text in dance performance. During his professional studies at Ryerson University, he has studied Contemporary dance with Louis-Laberge Cote, Creative Performance Practice with Kate Hilliard, and Ballet with Robert Glumbeck. At Ryerson, he has also worked with: Heidi Strauss, Peter Chin, Valerie Calam, and Alysa Pires. Outside of his degree, Rumi has trained in tap dance with Travis Knights, Dianne Montgomery and Tanya Knights. He has attended summer intensive programs to further his craft in creative practice, working with Hanes Langolf at B12, Hannah Kiel at Kenny Pearl’s Emerging Artist Intensive, and Monsta Pop at Alias Summer Intensive Program. He has sharpened his contemporary dance technique with the Metamorphosis Method and Luke Jessop. In addition to dance training Rumi has also trained in Vocal Musical Theatre with Lisa Atkinson and Acting with Marianne McIsaac. Finally, he is curious about the choreographic practice, especially in regards to the performer, created sound, rigour and the integration of text into movement work. He would love to learn more about physical theatre!
