We’re in search of an emerging choreographer to create a new work for Dancefest @ Nextfest 2018.
Who can apply?
Dancefest is geared towards emerging choreographers and movement artists under the age of 30 who are pursuing a professional career in dance.
Who will you be working with?
As choreographer, you will be working with a group of 15 to 25 dancers from Victoria School for the Arts to create a new movement piece.
Artistic mentorship and guidance will be available to you from the Good Women Collective Artists – our attendance at all of your rehearsals will be expected.
What does the creative process involve?
Rehearsals will run Monday afternoons from 3:30-5:30pm, beginning March 5, 2018 and continuing up until the Festival, which runs from May 31- June 10, 2018.
*There will be no rehearsals on April 2nd or May 21
You will need to be available for the technical and dress rehearsals (exact dates TBA, likely between May 26-May 30, 2017)
Where will you rehearse?
Studio space will be provided at Victoria School for the Arts.
What kind of funding is there?
You, the choreographer will be guaranteed a minimum honorarium of $400 for the creation and presentation of your work in Nextfest.
However, we would encourage and support your application for funds through the Edmonton Community Foundation’s Young Edmonton Grants program. This grant can provide a young Edmonton creator (13-24yrs) with funds up to $3000 for a project such as new choreography.
Good Women Collective Artists will be available to provide guidance in writing this application, should you require it. Applications for this grant are due by February 15, 2018.
