Open to artists working in all forms: Dance, music, visual art, theatre, comedy, performing arts…
The Good Women Dance Society is calling for submissions for our 3rd annual production of Simmer. Simmer is an informal work-in-progress event in which artists get the chance to present their work and engage in valuable feedback discussions with the audience. Although the works will still be in process, they are expected to be at a more developed phase of creation, on their way to becoming performance-ready. The work presented does not have to be completely set or in sequence; certain sections can be shown separately. Audience members will be given written surveys to provide comments and critiques, and there will be a short question and answer period following each piece. The performance occurs on September 18th and 19th, 2014 at the C103 Space (formerly the Catalyst). We are looking for works from any genre of art that are in an advanced state of creation or development. Only artists who intend on developing their work further will be considered. Each artist who successfully applies will be given a 45-minute slot to present their work AND dialogue with the audience. The length of the work shown within this time is at the artist’s discretion, but we encourage you to ensure that there is enough time left after your performance to engage in a meaningful discussion with the audience.
To apply, please submit the following to info@goodwomen.ca:
– A description of the work you are creating
– A current artistic CV
– Why you are interested in receiving feedback on your work
– What you intend to do with the feedback following the showing
– Details on how many performers are in the piece, the duration of the piece, and your technical requirements in terms of sound, props and set.
Any support material you would like to include must be accessible electronicallyvia Vimeo or youtube. Support material is not required but is strongly encouraged.
PLEASE NOTE: We will NOT be providing lights for this showing. There will be a general lighting state that everyone will perform in. We ARE able to run a limited number of sound cues (Good Women will be running sound). There is NO remuneration in terms of performance fees; however you do get valuable feedback on your creation as well as a delicious free dinner catered by a local establishment.
The submission deadline is August 1, 2014 at midnight and we will notify applicants of a decision by August 22, 2014.
Please email your submission document to info@goodwomen.ca. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.
