Good Women Dance Collective is proud to present the 2022 New Work Award to local choreographer and dancer, Skye Demas!

“Thanks to the Good Women for this opportunity! I’m excited to explore my dance roots and where my passion stems from.” – Skye Demas.

Skye Demas is of Cree, Ojibway and Dakota Sioux descent living on the traditional lands of amiskwaciy-wâskahikan. Graduating from Victoria School of Performing Arts, she is a dancer, actor, performer and choreographer. She has performed in productions with Skirtsafire Festival, Punctuate Theatre, Alberta Aboriginal Performing Arts, Nextfest Festival, SOAR Aboriginal Arts Program, and Victoria School. Starting in 2020, Skye has taught and participated in workshops with Nimihitotân, an Indigenous lead movement that focuses on creating safe spaces for indigenous hip hop artists. She loves to play beach volleyball in all seasons, and continues to pursue her love of dance in the Edmonton arts community.

The annual recipient receives:

  • $2000 in prize money
  • Mentorship from the Good Women Dance Collective
  • Access to rehearsal space
  • A performance spot at the 2023 Expanse Festival
