Calling all Artists!
movement, music, visual art, theatre, comedy, performing arts!
The Good Women Dance Society is calling for submissions for our 6th annual “What’s Cooking?”. “What’s Cooking?” is an informal work-in-progress event in which artists present their work and engage in a critical dialog with the audience about their work. Audience members will be given written surveys about each piece of work, to both comment and critique the work shown, and there will be a question and answer period following each piece.
The performance occurs on Sunday April 26th 2015, at the PCL Studio Theatre. We are looking for works from any genre of art that are in a creation or development phase. Only artists who intend on developing their work further will be considered. Each artist who successfully applies will be given a 20 minute slot to present their work AND dialogue with the audience. For this reason we advise that the work presented stays around the five minute mark to ensure that there is enough time left over to engage in a meaningful discussion with the audience. The work presented does not have to be completely set or in sequence – you can choose to show an improvisation score or to just show sections or phrase work.
For your submission we require:
-An artistic description of the work you are creating.
-Why you are interested in receiving feedback on your work.
-What you intend to do with the feedback. (what is the next step in your creation?)
-Details on how many performers are in the piece, the duration of the piece, and your technical requirements in terms of sound, props, and set.
Submission Deadline is Friday March 6th at midnight. Late or hard copy submissions will not be accepted. Please email all submissions to info@goodwomen.ca
PLEASE NOTE: We will NOT be providing lights for this showing. There will be a general lighting state that everyone will perform in. There is also NO remuneration in terms of performance fees, however you will get valuable feedback on your creation as well as a delicious free dinner catered by a local restaurant! Additionally, you may get the chance to have your work-in-progress selected to be showcased at a later stage of its choreographic development.
