Workshops

Creating Choreography with Laura Krewski

Monday, Feb. 1, 11 a.m- 12:30pm

This workshop is meant to offer insight to those that are curious about the different aspects of the choreographic process.  The workshop aims to deepen communication between choreographers, directors, dancers and actors. Find ways to develop a movement vocabulary for a new work or to articulate the needs within a rehearsal process. Physical participation is not required.

 

Dancing With Score with Brian Webb

Tuesday, Feb. 2, 11 a.m- 12:30pm

Brian Webb’s workshop is built upon the use of dance scores. He will encourage you to build your work from the use of intimate gesture, and personal relevance.

 

The Articulate Body with Heather Stewart 

Wednesday, Feb. 3, 11 a.m- 12:30pm

The Articulate Body workshop is ideal for dance artists who have a high level of proficiency of movement and are ready for a deeper development of their personal expression as performers. In this workshop we will explore movement phrases that address strength and stamina and place a strong emphasis on clarity of shape and form. Working with movement that is rooted in momentum and multiple articulations of the body we will focus on covering space and developing full body connections.

 

Partnering through Structure and Release with Julianne Chapple 

Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1 p.m- 2:30pm

This class explores tone and weight within the body, revealing the ranges of strength and release available. Participants will then take this internal investigation into partnering with a focus on giving and taking weight. Support, structure, communication, and negotiation are addressed through guided improvisational exercises and choreographic tools.

 

Creating in the Current Landscape with the Coldharts

Sunday, Feb. 7, 1 p.m- 2:30pm
This workshop explores how to create theatre work that can be performed anywhere: from the mainstage to the Fringe circuit and everywhere in between. This one day intensive will be led by Katie Hartman and Nick Ryan (the Coldharts) – creators hailing from Brooklyn, NY. The Coldharts develop and premiere a new show every fall in Minnesota for the mainstage theatre season before packing up for six months on the road performing in theatres, converted classrooms, bars, living rooms and outdoor spaces. They will bring experience, energy, and an international flair to theatre artists in Edmonton.
